Education & Experience
Shal found her way into nursing in a roundabout way. After high school, she studied Film and Sound Design at The Savannah College of Art and Design, earning a BFA in 2006. She worked in the film industry in California for a while. During that time, she took up trail running and got into nutrition.
From her outdoor activities, Shal got interested in Wilderness Medicine. That, in turn, led her back to school to become a nurse and later a Nurse Practitioner. Shal received her BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) from Marian University in 2014. She worked in Emergency Medicine as an RN before entering graduate school. In May of 2020, Shal earned her MSN (Master of Science in Nursing) from Ball State University, becoming a certified (NP-C) Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).
Shal still makes time for the outdoor activities she loves. Depending on the season, you can find her running trails, stand up paddleboarding, or snowboarding in her free time.
